A lot of people shy away from fish, as they say it’s too fishy, but for me Salmon and this recipe really can change that opinion. Not only does this salmon taste amazing and fresh, it’s so good for you.  It doesn’t take much effort but due to marinade of at least 30 minutes it does take us into the 30-60 minute category.

Kitchen equipment required

  • A container to marinade in
  • A frying pan
  • A wok or another frying pan
  • A small knife
  • A (non metallic) spoon
  • A plastic spatula


  • 5 mixing
  • 30 minutes marinade
  • 6-7 minutes cooking

Zest and sweet Salmon ingredients

  • 2 salmon fillets
  • A lime (or lemon)
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 2 tablespoons of sesame seed oil
  • 2 teaspoons of ginger paste
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
    To serve
  • Bag of mixed stir fry veg
  • Bag of fresh noodles
  1. Grate the outside (zest) of the lime using the small part of a grater into the container
  2. Cut the lime in half and squeeze as much of the juice as possible into the containerIMG_2706
  3. Add the honey, sesame oil and ginger into the container
  4. Place the salmon non skin side down into the the container
  5. Using the small sharp knife lightly score (cut) the skin
  6. Turn the salmon over so that each side has the marinade on it
  7. Using a spoon and with the salmon skin side up put marinade of the top of the skin
  8. Cover the container and place in the fridge for 30 mins (more if  you have time)
  9. Take the salmon, noodles and mixed veg out of the fridge, put the fry pan and wok on the stove.IMG_2708
  10. Add about 2 tablespoons of olive oil to both the frying pan and wok
  11. Heat the oil in just the frying pan until it’s hot (not smoking, if it’s smoking the take it off the heat for 1 minute to cool a little.
  12. Add the salmon skin facing up to the frying pan and reduced the heat to medium(keep the marinade in the container)
  13. Immediately after heat the oil in the wok on high heat and when really hot add the veg and stir about every 30 seconds
  14. Keep checking the base of the salmon and don’t let it burn, when it’s cooked on it’s top side turn it over to cook the skin sideIMG_2707
  15. After you turn the salmon, place the noodles in the microwave  (making sure you’ve pierced the bag) and cook as directed on the packaging
  16. When the salmon is cooked through, reduce heat in the wok to very low (yes the wok) and place the cooked salmon on to the bed of veg (this is too keep it warm)
  17. Keep the heat under the frying pan at medium and add the marinade
  18. Serve the noodles, veg and noodles on to warm plates
  19. The marinade should now be bubbling, when it is drizzle it over the salmon
  20. Enjoy your fresh salmon meal, with a glass or white and your favourite friend
