We all know that pizza is just a telephone call away, but why not impress the love (or friends) in your life by making them their favourite pizza right in your own kitchen.

Kitchen equipment required

  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 small mixing bowl
  • 1 Oven proof dish or pan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Measuring scales
  • Measuring jug
  • A large spoon or ladle
  • Pizza cutter or big knife

  • 10 minutes warming the flour
  • 5 minutes weighing and mixing
  • 10-15 minutes to proof (whilst you clean up and make yourself look great)
  • 2-5 minutes to top
  • 7-10 in the oven
  • 2 minutes to stage

Two 10 inch pizza ingredients

  • 360 grams plain white soft flour
  • 2 level teaspoon salt (preferably sea salt)
  • 2 level teaspoon dried yeast
  • 1 level teaspoon sugar (preferably caster, but regular is fine)
  • 250ml of hand warm water
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • Tomato puree
  • Oregano
  • Cheese (mozzarella)
  • Your choice of toppings
  1. First thing to do is to pop the oven on a low heat, approx. 100°C
  2. Get your ingredients ready and weigh out the 380g of flour
  3. Once the oven is warm, pop the floor into the oven in the oven proof dish to warm for 8-10 minutes
  4. Whilst the flour is in the oven put half of the tube of tomato puree into the mug, add double the amount of water and a heaped teaspoon of oregano. Mix until it’s all one consistency
  5. Chop any toppings and if required grate the cheese (and clean up as you’ll need a nice clean surface)
  6. Take the flour out of the over (switch the oven off) and place the warm flour into the mixing bowl.
  7. IMG_homemade_pizza_1Add in the yeast, salt and sugar and mix so it’s evenly distributed in the flour
  8. Make a hole in the middle of the flour mix and add in the hand warm water and oil.
  9. Using the wooden spoon fold the flour into the water, mix until it’s holding together and then use your hands to finish off until you have smooth dough and split into two equal balls

Tip:  If the mix is sticky then add a little flour, if it’s dry and flakey then add a little water. Add a little at a time until it’s smooth

  10. homemade_pizza_2Leave the balls in the bowl and cover with clingfilm, I leave the wooden spoon between them to stop them sticking together
  11. Leave to proof for 10-15 minutes, preferably somewhere warm (not hot), airing cupboard, window ledge in the sun
  12. Pop the oven back on, to 230°C, placing the pizza stone on the middle shelf

Tip: Clean up your mess, put away all of the dough ingredients except the flour and make sure you have a clean worktop or better still a large flat chopping board

  13. Once the dough is ready, floor the worktop, take one of the pizza balls out of the bowl and start to knead it,  pushing from the center initially and then making sure it’s even all round and as circular as possible, it should fit on your pizza stone almost perfectly.  Leave a little lip on the edge to make a nice fluffy crust

Tip: Make sure you have ALL of the toppings ready before the next part

  14. Take the HOT pizza stone out of the oven and place on a heatproof surface or an upturned dish. (Close the oven to keep that heat in)
  15. homemade_pizza_6Carefully transfer the pizza dough on to the stone. Now you need to move quick
  16. Take a ladle of puree mix from the mug and place in the center of the dough and with the back of the ladle (or spoon) work the pizza sauce out to the lip
  17. Top with your choice of toppings (no too much in the center) and then add the cheese.
  18. Place back in the oven for 7-10 minutes, keep an eye on it otherwise you’ll burn that lovely cheese and fluffy crust
  19. Knead the other pizza dough
  20. homemade_pizza_8Take pizza one out when ready, let it stage (stand) on a plate or heatproof surface for 2-3 minutes
  21. Whilst pizza one stages, follow steps 15 – 20 for pizza two
  22. Cut pizza one

Tip: Don’t wait for pizza two to be ready, cut and serve pizza one to your impressed guests

  23. Clean up whilst pizza two is cooking, keeping an eye on the pizza.
  24. Cut pizza two, remove your apron, switch the oven off, grab a glass of white and join your guest(s) to enjoy your homemade pizza
